Shopping For Simulacra - Matt Westbrook
Sunday 27 September, 12pm
Cherry Red's Café Bar, 88-90 John Bright Street B1 1BN
Matt Westbrook has recently been developing the technique of 'voluntary pareidolia.' This refers to the mind's occasional short-circuiting where faces are seen in chance patterns, animal forms in clouds and so on. Matt will explain all on this walk round the city, using real-world examples that demonstrate misinterpret the brain's helpful efforts to make sense of chaos: thus paint peeling becomes a flock of birds in flight, a chance arrangement of leaves may become a crocodile and a bicycle lock becomes a coiled python. Once inside this world of creative interpretation, examples can be found in the most unexpected places.
The walk takes place in an urban environment and appropriate footwear should be worn. The walk will avoid steps where possible and an accessible route will be available. The route covers approx. 2 miles. Suitable for ages 12 and up.
