Shopping in the sixties: Birmingham city centre retail walk.

From its inception, Modernist architecture sought to cater for the retail customer. Birmingham saw renewal in its central shopping area that matched the renovation and slum clearances in housing. Rebuilt in places and revamped in others, pedestrians would be separated from traffic and allowed to shop in outlets that suited the new (and often young) consumer. We will look at, and learn to appreciate, some of the designs from the sixties that graced our city centre and still do so to this day.
