About this event

Lord Street is Southport is renowned for its varied architecture and iron verandahs. Although the shops themselves may have changed, many of the buildings were relatively new when Mrs Dowson was shopping in the late Victorian and early Edwardian period.

Mrs Dowson left a huge collection of receipts from a wide range of Lord Street retail businesses in the years around 1900, which are now in the Local History Collection at Crosby Library. This walk uses a selection from central Lord Street to explore her shopping habits, the shops she patronised and the buildings they were housed in.

The walk is part of Southport Heritage Open Days festival - heritage events taking place across Southport from Friday 12 to Sunday 21 September.
