Event description

Description

We would like to welcome you to the next Shoreditch Business Forum hosted by Hackney Council, this is an informal presentation and networking opportunity and open to all businesses and entrepreneurs in Shoreditch and the surrounding areas.

Special thanks to Aviva for very kindly providing the venue for this session.

Not based in Shoreditch or the surrounding area? you are still welcome or you can find your local forum dates here

The agenda for our next gathering is as follows:

Meeting begins at 9:30

1) Welcome and introductions

2) Council updates

3) Shoreditch and Hoxton Arts Fund - We’re delighted to welcome some of the cultural organisations who have successfully won grant funding through the new Shoreditch and Hoxton Arts Fund. The fund has been created through a levy on developers in the area and will be used to support programmes and events that celebrate arts and culture and bring different communities together. We’ll hear from the successful applicants on their projects.

4) Shoreditch Park Improvement Project - Shoreditch Park is one of Hackney’s largest and well used parks. People tell us they love the large open space, informal sports areas and playground, but we also know there’s a lot that could be improved. A £2m investment has been proposed and while the Council has ambitions to increase biodiversity, and improve entrances, sports and play facilities in the park, it has no fixed plans for how this should happen, and wants local people and businesses to input with their ideas.

In this session we’ll discuss what local businesses would like to see so you can help shape our future plans.

5) A beginner's guide to user experience and how to apply it to your business - More and more large scale, successful businesses either know or are beginning to understand the value that user experience or ‘UX’ can bring to their business, both when it comes to web design and business planning in general.

However, latest statistics show that a huge amount of small to medium-sized businesses are missing out on this invaluable principle. A whopping 70% of small businesses do not have clear call to actions for anything on their website.

During this session, Jilly Cross from Bravand will talk you through some of the key processes that larger scales businesses and their consultants use to develop their "user centric" approaches to strategy, product / service development and communications (including web design). She'll talk you through the do's and don'ts, and you will leave armed with a batch of tools so that you can apply the same thinking to your own organisation.

6) AOB

Networking and refreshments - We think it's important these forums provide an opportunity for you to get to know your business neighbours, form new business relationships and use each others services. The last half an hour will be a chance for you to do just that, please also feel free to bring along any business promotional material you would like to share.
