Event description
A short course introducing the key principles of impact evaluation for arts and cultural projects

About this Event

Over two half days workshops, this short course will explore the processes and practices by which arts and cultural projects can be evaluated. The course will begin by discussing how a theory of change should inform the creation of a result chain out of which impact indicators can be selected. The focus will then shift to considering the practicalities of designing a qualitative project evaluation, from selecting methods to establishing a base line, generating and evaluating data, and producing a project evaluation report. Over the course of the two sessions you will be asked to design a project evaluation and we encourage participants to come to the course with a specific project in mind.

Suitability: The course would be suitable for anyone whose role requires them to conduct or commission impact evaluations of art and cultural projects but who has had little or no experience of doing this in practice. While the course specifically focuses on arts and cultural projects, the learning would be relevant to anyone working in the third sector that is required to evaluate the social or cultural impact of their organisational activities.

Dates: The course is delivered over two half days - January 24th 2020 13:15 to 17:15 and January 31st 2020 13:15 to 17:15 participants are required to attend both days

Cost: £220

Location: Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh Rm. 2171

Outcome: Certificate of attendance

Other details:This short course forms part of a 20-credit module on the postgraduate MA Arts, Festival and Cultural Management programme. As such, short course participants will be taught alongside students studying for this award. Class sizes are likely to be between 10 and 15 people. Should short course participants wish to complete the full module and gain credit (which could be used towards a qualification such as the Postgraduate Certificate in Arts Management) they will be required to conduct a live project evaluation (under the supervision of the module leader) and submit the evaluation report for assessment (an additional fee of £480 would be payable).
