Birmingham & Midland Institute

With Antonia Beck

At some point, every writer faces the joy or indeed the fear of reading or performing their work in public.

This five-session course will provide you with the opportunity to take part in practical activities, discussion and reflection, exploring different approaches and techniques on how to develop performance skills and feel confident in sharing your work with an audience.

Workshops will include a range of exercises including breath and vocal work, physicality and maintaining a strong presence on stage, how to use a microphone, and how to develop a performance style that will enable you to feel confident on stage and bring your work to life.

Through both group and solo work, you will develop skills on how to approach a performance so that it becomes enjoyable for both yourself and the audience, in a fun and supportive environment.

As part of the final session, you will also have the opportunity to perform your work to an audience as part of a public sharing event.

This course is suitable for writers across all genres. No previous performance experience is necessary.
