Event description

Description

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Shooting People, one of the UK’s most established independent filmmaker networks. To celebrate, we’ve launched SHORT CUTS, a year long quarterly film competition which is focussed on career development. Prizes include industry mentorship, filmmaking equipment, prizes and a £1,000 film fund to go towards your next project.

At our SHORT CUTS October Event we’re very excited to welcome the brilliant award-winning actor, writer and director, Alice Lowe.

Alice is perhaps best known for shooting her directorial debut Prevenge, about a pregnant woman on a homicidal rampage, whilst seven months pregnant. The film won her an award for Best Actress at the National Film Awards, as well as a BIFA nomination for Best Directorial Debut. She also co-wrote and co-starred in Sightseers, directed by Ben Wheatley. This won Empire's Best British Film, as well as London Critics Circle Newcomer Award for Alice and her co-star Steve Oram.

Alice started out as an actor in TV comedy, appearing in Little Britain, The Mighty Boosh and the Perrier Award winning show Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, which went on to become a cult Channel 4 series. She has also appeared in numerous high-profile British films including Hot Fuzz and Paddington, as well as in several indie hits such as Adult Life Skills, Black Mountain Poets, BAFTA nominated The Ghoul and Locke.

Alice will be appearing soon in Sometimes Always Never with Bill Nighy and in new New Sci-Fi feature, Solis. She has just finished filming Eternal Beauty with Craig Roberts and Sally Hawkins.

Her second feature Timestalker is due to film next year.

“Shooting People is an important resource for anyone blindly attempting to penetrate the mysteries of the film industry. The contacts you make there can be contacts for life! A vital and energising resource that keeps you motivated, and makes you feel anything is possible. Filmmaking gets in your blood and doesn't let you go! And Shooting People were amongst those responsible for the beginning of my addiction.” - Alice Lowe

**Please note that, because this is a free event, we over-subscribe tickets. Having a ticket, therefore, does not guarantee entry. Please arrive promptly to avoid disappointment.**
