Short evening course in ceramics
Thu, 15 Jun 2017, 18:00 – Thu, 13 Jul 2017, 20:00 BST
Introduction to making the vessel in clay
On this five week course, run by Chris, we will explore different clay making processes; slab building, press moulding and wheel throwing. The focus will be on the functional pot for the kitchen and table. Suitable for complete beginners, or those with a little prior experience who would like to focus more on their own projects.
We will also cover surface decoration and finishing techniques; using coloured slips and glazes. Both of us at Cyan Clayworks use a variety of finishes in our work, and we will show you a survey of our methods. Apart from the techniques, we will also introduce some vocabulary that you may or may not be familiar with. This will be advantageous to you to understand more of what you are doing, and how to explain it to others.
Like all our courses, class sizes are small so that everyone gets enough individual support and advice. We will go through different practical demonstrations each week, and then you will be able to work on projects of your own design. All tools and materials provided.
£110 per person, inclusive of materials, preparation and firings.
