Join us for a special event on navigating the creative industries as an emerging artist – part of Oxford Road Corridor’s The Cultural Welcome for students.
📅 9 October 2025
⏰ 6pm - 8:30pm
📍the Whitworth
Part of The Cultural Welcome, Oxford Road Corridor’s programme for new and returning students, this special event sees arts organisation Short Supply share how a creative career can start while you’re still in art school.
Using real-life case studies from their book 517 Degrees, they’ll highlight successful strategies for establishing your practice in Manchester – and beyond.
517 Degrees celebrates five years of MADE IT, the graduate art prize for the North West, established in 2019 by Short Supply. Featuring profiles from alumni who have exhibited in MADE IT over the years and essays by guest writers from the North West, 517 Degrees is your glance into the chaos, conundrums and creative climate art school graduates in the 21st century face – and your guide to navigating this.
6.30pm–6.45pm – Arrival & Welcome
6.45pm–7.30pm – In Conversation: ‘One Year On’
7.30pm–7.45pm – Audience Q&A

This event is part of The Cultural Welcome – a week of events designed to help students discover the creative and cultural spaces of Manchester’s Knowledge Quarter. Find out more [oxfordroadcorridor.com].
