Should charities step in for public services in an era of austerity?
Tue 9 May 2017, 08:30 – 10:30 BST
As austerity means increasingly public sector contracts become more stretched financially how should charities respond? Should they campaign against the cuts, but risk people being left without vital services? Or should they continue with the contracts even if it means complementing the work with other sources of income and the extensive use of volunteer labour?
This seminar, hosted by Deloitte’s Charities and Not for Profit Group, will ask:
- What is the likely path for public spending?
- How are charities using their assets to support public services and should they continue to do so?
- How do donors and funders feel about their money being used to top up something they think they are paying for through tax?
The session will be chaired by Patrick Murray, Head of Policy and External Affairs at NPC and speakers will include Javed Kahn, Chief Executive, Barnardo's.
