Event description

Description

Back in the nineteenth century, limestone quarries in and around Wilmcote, near Stratford-upon-Avon, were a rich source of fossils dating back to the dawn of the Jurassic Period. Among the fossils, a near-complete skeleton of a sea-going reptile, known as a plesiosaur, was recovered and acquired by the Warwickshire Natural History and Archaeological Society for their museum at Warwick's Market Hall.

A newly constructed life-size replica of the fossil is now on display in the Market Hall Museum, whilst the original skeleton is safely housed in the museum's stores. This talk explores the life and times of this amazing animal, and how it came to be entombed in the rock layers of a local quarry.

This is a free drop-in talk, no need to book.
