Event description

Description

Our Excellence Showcase offers students and staff an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on our student voice practices. The Showcase is open to all and the sessions will explore experiences and understandings of Students as Partners and how we can embed this idea into our ways of working.

Agenda

Keynote: Exploring student-staff partnerships - concepts, practice and excellence (Dr Abbi Flint)

Dr Abbi Flint is a freelance educational developer and researcher specialising in student engagement, partnership, and facilitating cultural change in higher education. Her current research interests are the relationship between engagement theory and practice, partnership learning communities, and how we evaluate the impact of partnership work. Abbi is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, regularly presents and publishes on student engagement and partnership, and is on the International Advisory Group for the International Journal for Students as Partners.

"Student-staff partnership in learning and teaching (Healey, Flint and Harrington, 2014) and quality enhancement (QAA, 2018) has become an important theme in conversations about Higher Education policy and practice. As part of the bigger picture of student engagement (Kahu, 2013), partnership is a complex and multi-dimensional concept, and it can be difficult to reach consensus on definitions and understandings. Indeed, the relationship between the theory and practice of partnership can be seen as emerging alongside this developing field (Matthews et al, 2019)

In this interactive session, I aim to provide space for you to consider how your individual activities and approaches may play a part in a wider ecosystem of student-staff partnership. As well as drawing on my reflections from research (e.g. Flint and Millard, 2018), policy and scholarship, we’ll explore together what staff-student partnership means to you in your context; what ideas and values you do draw on when you think about partnership and how do these translate into your practice? We’ll reflect on what excellence in partnership might look like, and some of the questions and considerations that can help us move our practice forward. Be prepared to creatively explore, reflect on, share and develop your experiences and understandings of partnership."
