Register your team for the SIAA Challenge 2014
The Challenge: Create the most comprehensive, concise and compelling assessment of a charity’s impact. Once the measures are measured, once the data is gathered, how do social impact analysts use this data to effectively tell the charity’s story? The SIAA Challenge 2014 is an experiment in crafting a narrative from a sea of qualitative and quantitative data. 15 Teams of Social Impact Analysts will separately create impact reports based on the same real data from the same real charity.
Being a part of the SIAA Challenge lets you enter a global conversation about methods and approaches to charity impact measurement and reporting. You will have the opportunity to learn from others, showcase your work, and critically reflect on how other professionals and methods make different use of the same data.
How it works: A Challenge packet will be emailed to you, complete with instructions and the case material. The data includes operational data, quantitative and qualitative output and outcome data, financial information, staffing information, information on a comparable charity and some peer-reviewed research on the issues, and merits of different approaches. You use this data to prepare an impact report. You have 5 hours.
Date, time and location: Each team chooses the date and time that they complete the challenge. The Challenge packet is emailed at the chosen time and a submission is required 5 hours later. Contest must be completed sometime between September 22nd and midnight on October 20th ET.
Cost: It is free to join the SIAA Challenge. There will be scheduled time during the conference for teams to meet and present their work but this is optional. Conference attendance is not required. The
Teams: Team size can be up 6 people; we recommend at least 3 people.
Registration: Registration will be open until 15 teams have registered. Registration is free. When you select "Create a team" You will be asked to select a time and date to start the SIAA Challenge. These times are in EDT.
Judging and Review: The judging panel will assess the reports in three broad categories: the report provides a coherent account of performance; the report supports claims with evidence from the data packet; and the content is presented in is clear, concise, balanced & intuitive manner.
Eligibility: The SIAA Challenge is open to any one who considers themselves a Social Impact Analyst and who can work with the English-language materials. You must have access to the internet. Each person can only compete once, on one team. Each team may only submit one entry. It is not necessary that entrants are members of SIAA. Those involved in the administration or judging of the contest are not permitted to enter.
