Sian Hughes Book Launch
Date and time
An evening of film, chat and readings by the author Sian Hughes, from her debut collection of short stories 'Pain Sluts'.
About this event
"A teenager performs stripteases in her bedroom window as funeral processions pass by. A grieving mother reunites with her miscarried foetus. A widow takes on the sinister, rapacious treehouse in next door’s garden.
Combining pitch-perfect, darkly comic observations with tender touches of humanity, Pain Sluts chronicles the flaws, frailties, and enduring spirit of an eclectic cast of curious characters as they navigate threats to their identity and humanity"
Join us for a very special evening of conversation, author readings and a film screening to mark the publication of Cardiff based writer Sian Hughes, debut collection of short stories 'Pain Sluts' published by Storgy books.
The evening kicks off just after 6pm with an introduction by Storgy books, followed by Sian reading two of her own stories ; then after a short break the author Sian Hughes will also be in conversation with Sarah Morgan Jones, literary editor of Nation magazine.
To finish the evening, there will be the Welsh premiere of the short film 'Consumed' directed by Karen Lamond and produced by Penny Davies, based on Sian's short story Can You Eat the Wind.
Drinks provided with a licensed bar.

"Yn y casgliad o straeon newydd hwn, mae merch yn ei harddegau yn stripio yn ffenestr ei hystafell wely wrth i orymdeithiau angladd fynd heibio. Mae mam sy'n galaru ar ôl colli beichiogrwydd yn ‘ailymuno’ gyda’i ffetws mewn ffordd ryfedd, annifyr. Ac mae gwraig weddw yn ymgymryd â’r tŷ coed sinistr yn yr ardd drws nesaf.
Gan gyfuno arsylwadau comig tywyll gyda chyffyrddiadau tyner o ddynoliaeth, mae ‘Pain Sluts’, casgliad o straeon newydd gan awdur o Gymru o’r enw Siân Hughes, yn croniclo diffygion, eiddilwch, ac ysbryd parhaus cast eclectig o gymeriadau wrth iddynt lywio bygythiadau i'w hunaniaeth a'u dynoliaeth."
Mae Siân Hughes yn ysgrifennwr copi a sgrin, sydd wedi cael ei chyhoeddi ar-lein ac mewn print. Mae eu straeon byr wedi cael a'u haddasu ar gyfer ffilm a theledu ac wedi ymddangos ar HTV, BBC Cymru, a S4C.
Yn fwy diweddar, darlledwyd addasiad o’r stori fer ‘Consumed’, sydd hefyd yn y casgliad, am y tro cyntaf yn 2021 yng Ngŵyl Ffilm Fer Glasgow, gyda Shauna Macdonald o’r gyfres ‘The Descent’ yn y brif rôl. Ar ôl cwblhau M.A mewn Ysgrifennu Creadigol yn 2019, gan raddio gyda Rhagoriaeth, mae Siân hefyd wedi gweithio fel Ymarferydd Creadigol i Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru. Mae Siân yn byw yng Nghaerdydd gyda'i gŵr, tri o blant, ac yn siarad Cymraeg.
