Event description

Description

Join Sidcup Symphony Orchestra with conductor James Ross in this concert of perrenial favourites by Elgar, Rachmaninov and Sibelius.

We start with Sir Edward Elgar's Overture "Cockaigne" - a portrayal of London Town in Edwardian times as seen and heard through the ears and eyes of a young couple.

We then welcome Carson Becke as our soloist in Rachmaninov's Fourth Piano Concerto in G minor. This work was written a few years after the Bolshevik Revolution, after Rachmaninov moved to live in the USA, and one of the few major compositions he produced in that period.

The concert closes with Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 5 in Eb major, the first version of which was written in time for his 50th birthday which was celebrated as a national holiday in 1915.
