About this event

Please join the Oxford Department of Social Policy and Intervention for the 2021 Sidney Ball Lecture.

We are delighted to welcome this year's speaker, Baroness Minouche Shafik DBE of the London School of Economics, and the author of ‘What We Owe Each Other: A New Social Contract’.

Baroness Shafik is a leading economist, whose career spans both policy and academia. She was appointed Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science in September 2017 and recently wrote a book about social contracts, how they have changed over time and how we can move forward and develop new ones which will benefit all of us.

The annual Sidney Ball lecture was instituted by Barnett House and named in 1920 after the first chairman of the Barnett House Committee, Sidney Ball. The event brings a distinguished speaker to Oxford every autumn to discuss key themes in social policy and intervention and it continues to be a highlight of the department’s calendar.

Drinks reception to be held after lecture.

Recording of lecture to be made available on the DSPI Youtube channel one week after lecture takes place in person.

Please use this form to register to attend the lecture in person.
