Event description

Description

Would you like to improve your signing skills? Sign of the Future is a new and exciting project for parents with deaf children aged 0-8 years, offering opportunities to learn more about British Sign Language (BSL) at NESS, Aberdeen.

If you have attended a BSL course previously, join us at our free Family Sign Language Level 2 course, where you can take your signing to the next level. Our trained and experienced Family Sign Language tutors will show you how to build your skills through a series of topics, activities and games which you and your family can enjoy together across six Sundays morning sessions.

Dates:

  • 10 September

  • 1 and 29 October

  • 5 and 26 November

  • 10 December 2017

Time: 11am – 1pm

Are you looking for opportunities to practice your signing skills with others? Our monthly Family Sign Language Club is a chance to sign with other families in a relaxed, informal environment. With a range of fun activities on offer, and tutors on hand to offer guidance, this is a unique opportunity to get social with your signing. Our Family Sign Language Club would be particularly helpful for those attending our Family Sign Language Level 2 course.

Dates:

  • 20 August

  • 8 October

  • 12 November 2017

Time: 11am – 1pm

FAQs

Can children participate in sessions?

Yes. We are trying something new through Sign of the Future, this means that all children will be included in sessions. Please be aware that there will be no childcare provision at either the Level 2 course or Family Sign Language, and parents will remain responsible for their children at all times.

Do we need to attend both the course and the club?

We would strongly recommend that you attend both the club and the course to make the most of your learning; however, we know that little people have busy lives. If you already know that some of the dates above aren’t good for you, get in touch and we can advise.

We are proud to offer our courses and events to families of deaf children for free, but the cost of delivery is high. To ensure that every penny of our Scottish Government funding is spent supporting families like yours, please commit to the events you sign up to, and let us know as soon as possible if you can’t attend.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is free car parking available at NESS (Please remember if using the car park at the weekend 2 spaces must be left unoccupied as per sign). If you’re travelling on public transport, NESS is within walking distance of Kinning Park underground, and there are also several bus routes which stop close by.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No - once we have your booking, we'll know to expect you.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

If you need to change your booking, please let us know. For health and safety purposes we need to know who is attending our events. Whilst we will always do our best to meet requests, we may not be able to accommodate changes or additions on the day of an event.
