Event description
A British East and South East Asian Guide to Manchester's Past, Present and Future

About this Event

A fire burns to signal that we’re here. To show our numbers and celebrate our stories. To pass the torch from the past to the present, looking towards the future.

British East and South East Asian artists of the North West are collaborating with Yellow Earth Theatre to bring new perspectives to the streets of Manchester in a performance-led walking tour. Starting at Sweet Mandarin, join our torch relay to St Peter's Square, soaking in a series of pop-up stories created by the city's own East and South East Asian theatremakers.

UK theatre touring companies join together in a time of crisis to return to the ‘original theatre’ – storytelling around fires – to celebrate our fundamental need as humans to gather, tell stories and make sense of the world around us, so that we can collectively reimagine the future.

Stories by Chris Shapiro, In-Sook Chappell, Jasmine Chong, Anna Nguyen and Mei Yuk Wong. The collective of British East and South East Asian Creatives can be found here: https://nw-besea-creatives.uk

Yellow Earth is excited to join companies across the UK including 45North, Arcade, Beyond Face, Big Telly, Boundless, Eastern Angles, English Touring Theatre, Fuel, Graeae, Headlong, Kestrel Theatre Company, Kneehigh, Macha Productions, National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, New Perspectives, Out Of Joint, Pentabus, Pilot, Paines Plough, SBC Theatre, Scottish International Storytelling Festival, Slung Low, Spare Tyre and The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, with more to be announced.

The health and safety of audiences, artists, creative teams and staff alike is of the upmost importance. All companies involved in the project will implement COVID secure measures to ensure that their full process, from rehearsal to performance, is in line with the current government guidelines, following strict hygiene protocols and allowing for social distancing.

Tickets are strictly limited, with a maximum of 15 audience members per performance. They can be booked in a bubble of up to 6, and details will be stored for Track and Trace purposes. Please note that this is an outdoor walking tour, so warm clothing is advised. Please bring a brolly in case of rain,. During the tour, audience members will be required to walk to different points in the city for up to 10 minutes at a time, and stand for up to 20 minutes at each location. Please contact us for more information and access provisions.
