Advance your career as a British Sign Language Interpreter with the Signature Level 6 Diploma, delivered by experienced trainers from Bruce Delfosse Interpreter Training.
Have you completed or are close to finishing your BSL Level 6? Do you work in Education or are you a Communication Support Worker? Are you thinking about the next steps to become a BSL English Sign Language Interpreter? If this is you, come and find out more at our Information & Selection Day.
The course includes a TSLI assessment and if successful will allow you to register with NRCPD and work as a trainee interpreter.
What happens on the Information and Selection Day?
The day runs from 9.30am to 4.30pm and includes:
1. Qualification and course information.
2. Group activities exploring ethical dilemmas and cultural equivalencies. This is for you to see if you like the way we teach.
3. Written document on ethical dilemmas (handed out after the teaching session).
4. A translation of a document to a deaf person in BSL (we provide this document week prior for you to prepare). It’s not a memory test and you can have this in front of you on the day. It’s also not a pass or fail assessment. It’s to see where you are at with your ability to relay information to a deaf person, so we have a starting point, and can plan your development.
5. Self-evaluation - you will be asked to complete a written self-evaluation form immediately after your translation task.
- Viva/one to one – this will include questions from us and an opportunity for you to reflect on the different elements of the day. There will also be the opportunity for you to ask us any questions.
If you have any additional needs or need any adjustments, just let us know when you apply.
Secure your spot today and take the next step in your interpreting journey!
What qualifications or experience do I need to apply?
In order to be considered for the programme you will need to have achieved Level 6, or near completion, in both British Sign Language and English, as set out by the CfA – the organisation that sets standards for learning languages in the UK. If you’re not sure, the National Careers Service helps to make sense of how different qualifications compare.
Don't worry if you do not hold a formal English qualification as we will see your use of English at our Information & Selection Day.
We’re not expecting you to be fully-fledged interpreters for Part 1 otherwise you wouldn’t need this programme! However, some experience of interpreting or communication support work is desirable, as it will enable you to apply your learning to your own experiences. If you’ve not interpreted before, don’t be put off.
When will I know if I am successful?
We will let you know within 2 days of undertaking the assessment whether you are successful or not. If you are not successful, you will also receive detailed written feedback on all parts of the assessment within 2 weeks.
