Event description
Dear friends, please come to Cafe Yukari for an evening of film accompanied by music. I will be playing piano and woodwind instruments.

About this Event

Yosi Marshall has been putting on regular performances and shows at Cafe Yukari this year including accompanying music for The Temptress, playing a woodwind extravaganza with Caroline Cooper, a regular at Yukari, performing 2 piano recitals and playing opposite singer-songwriter, Catherine Ashby in the summer.

The Scar of Shame is a 1929 silent melodrama with black actors. The film emerged during a time of great breakthroughs in not only African American film but all art with the Harlem Renaissance when a new sense of black consciousness emerged likely after witnessing the bravery of African-American soldiers in World War 1.

An educated, upscale young black musician marries a woman from a lower socioeconomic class to get her out of the clutches of her stepfather, who beats and abuses her. However, once he "saves" her, he won't let his new wife meet his mother, as he knows she will be angry and disappointed with him for marrying someone "below his class".

The film was directed by Frank Perugini and starring Norman Johnstone, Lucia Lynn Moses and Harry Henderson.

Please come and enjoy viewing this film and sampling delicious Japanese cuisine at Cafe Yukari.
