If you've never tried navigating with a map and compass or always rely on others to take charge, this online workshop is for you! You don't need any previous experience to sign-up and you won't be asked to answer questions or perform any tricky tasks on screen; just listen-in and have a go in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Suitable for walkers and runners. There are no stpuid questions here, so if you feel confused just ask!
Together we will cover;
Map types, scale and key
- Compasses
- Contour interpretation and visualisation
- Setting the map
- What to do when visibility is poor/changeable
- Taking and walking on a bearing (and spotting errors)
- How to put theory into practice
- Confidence-building
- Navigational Aids
Get to grips with the theory of map-reading and become comfortable working with maps before heading outdoors to put the skills into practice. This workshop is the perfect first-step and will give you the confidence to join and participate in walking groups or skills courses and overcome the misguided notion that you 'can't navigate'!
