Event description

Description

As part of our #SilverCityStramash we welcome Tom Spiers and the Spiers Family to Aberdeen. Tom has been involved in traditional folk song since the early 1960s. He was a founder member of The Gaugers, who specialised in music from NE Scotland and made a number of influential recordings in the 70s and 80s. At various times he was also a member of Stramash and Shepheard Spiers & Watson.

In 2001 he recorded a solo CD, Allan Water, on the Tradition Bearers label.

In the 2006 Scottish Traditional Music Awards, Tom was nominated for ‘Scots Singer of the Year’ and Shepheard Spiers & Watson nominated for ‘Scottish Folk Band of the Year’.

In 2013, The Gaugers were inducted to The Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame. Tom now sings with his wife Maggie and daughter Emma as The Spiers Family.

Tom will deliver an interactive talk on serving his 'Folk-song apprenticeship' in an area rich with traditional singers and enthusiastic collectors. He will illustrate this with some source recordings and live performance with The Spiers Family.

This event is free but tickets are limited so please reserve yours online on the eventbrite link in this event.
