The Silvertown Tunnel will be a new 1.4km twin-lane road tunnel under the River Thames, linking North Greenwich and Silvertown. Completed this year, in 2025, the Silvertown Tunnel is the first new road crossing east of Tower Bridge since the Dartford Crossing was built over 30 years ago.

Silvertown Tunnel has a dedicated lane for buses, coaches and heavy goods vehicles, meaning there will be a significant increase in the number of buses crossing the river and much greater opportunity to use public transport. Buildings above the tunnel entrances, and plans to improve walking, cycling and the urban environment, are also part of the major regeneration of both sides of the river.

The Riverlinx CJV (Construction Joint Venture) was contracted by TfL and Riverlinx SPV to complete the design and construction works. Construction for the Silvertown Tunnel commenced in autumn 2020 and was delivered on programme in 2025.

The Engineer Australia – UK Chapter Silvertown Tunnel visit will commence at 5pm on Thursday 2nd October 2025 at the Silvertown Tunnel main office. Attendees will then have a chance to network and enjoy a drink at a local pub (The Pilot) following the trip back across the Thames.
