The Singapore approach is an exciting and effective way to teach maths. Through well-established teaching methods and the use of carefully researched text books, children are able to develop a love and deep understanding that allows them to master maths.
This workshop focuses on how Teaching Assistants can best support learning in classrooms which are adopting the Singapore approach to maths. It is suitbale for new TA’s and also experienced TA’s who are new to Singapore Maths.
It will include an observation of a Singapore maths lesson, guidance on how to question learners and encouraging problem solving skills whilst not 'instructing' and discussion with experienced TA's.
This workshop includes:
- a demonstration of a Singapore maths lesson
- discussion with experienced TA’s and maths lead
- a workshop on questioning learners and encouraging problem solving skills whilst not 'instructing'
- the opportunity to look at our text books and examples of children’s work and their journals
What time should I arrive?
All times published are the event times, please arrive 15-20 minutes in advance of the stated time to allow time to register and have refreshments.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Yes, we understand that sometimes plans change in schools and a different colleague can attend on your behalf without charge. Please sign into school in your own name on arrival and the tutor will update our records.
Is there parking at the venue?
St Mary's has a car park which is accessed from Adscombe Street. We anticipate that there will be space for all teaching school visitors, however this cannot be guaranteed. Street parking in the immediate vicinity of the school is without restriction.
