Description

Approachable ideas to introduce songwriting into the classroom

This workshop will focus on Upper KS2 and will explore different way to introduce songwriting into the classroom. The focus will be on how to bridge the gap between poetry and lyric writing for songs, how to use backing tracks as a starting point for songwriting in the classroom and on using simple musical ideas to build a melody.

David O’Dowda is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist living in Manchester. As well as working in both Primary and Secondary education, he has composed music and songs that have been used worldwide on various films, television promos, programmes and advertising including Homelands, The Walking Dead, various Netflix shows and advertisements for IKEA, Boots No.7 and Stella Artois. His use of lyrics in music for picture has led to him being asked to be artist in residence at the 2017 Dutch creative writing retreat ‘Watershed’ in Eindhoven.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

PUBLIC TRANSPORT - Parking in Ancoats is currently at a premium visitors as there is building works so you are strongly encouraged to use public transport when visiting Hallé St Peter’s or Hallé at St Michael’s whenever possible. Ancoats is a 10 minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly Train Station, Piccadilly Gardens and Shudehill Bus Terminals and Metrolink stops and a 15 minute walk from Victoria Station. Please note: The access footbridge to New Islington Metrolink from Ancoats is currently closed to the public.

There are a number of options for Parking close to Hallé St Peter’s and Hallé St Michael's but there may be building soand please check the internet for updates. Visit the following link for an interactive map:

In addition street parking bays are available close to the venue on Blossom Street, George Leigh Street, Sherratt Street and Cornell Street. These bays are chargeable 8am – 6pm Monday to Sunday with a maximum stay of Two Hours at any one time and there are a number of meters at which to pay in close proximity to the bays.

There is no charge to park in these bays outside the hours listed above or on Bank Holidays and visitors in the evenings particularly are encouraged to utilise these spaces whenever possible.

Please Note: The roads around Hallé St Peter’s are narrow so we respectfully remind visitors to park in accordance with the Highway Code and to be considerate to our neighbours at all times.

What's the refund policy?

Our courses are not refundable but they are transferable. If you would like to transfer the training corse to another person in your organisation then please email us at music.service@bolton.gov.uk

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

No, the name must match unless you notify us of a transfer but it can be transferred easily by emailing us with the new delegates name.
