Sgraffito Bauble Workshop
Join Nonsuch Ceramics for a cosy and creative festive workshop exploring sgraffito – a decorative technique beloved by ceramic artists, including contemporary maker Grayson Perry. This method involves carving through coloured clay slips to reveal the contrasting clay beneath, resulting in beautifully detailed surface designs.
On arrival, enjoy a complimentary glass of warming mulled wine to get into the festive spirit. Throughout the evening, mince pies and crisps will be available to purchase, and there will be natural pauses during the session when you’re welcome to pop out and grab a light bite from the nearby café if you're feeling peckish.
In this hands-on session, you’ll work on two leather-hard baubles prepared by the instructor and learn to use a range of tools to carve your own unique patterns and illustrations. You’ll experiment with coloured slips and be guided through the process of creating striking decorative effects, considering composition and the relationship between surface and form.
Participants can choose to have their finished work either clear glazed or left unglazed. All materials and kiln firings are included. No prior ceramics experience is necessary – just bring your festive spirit and creativity.
