Professor Sir Bernard Rix kicks off the academic calendar with the first commercial law lecture of the year.


Speaking on a topic of his choice, Sir Bernard brings the insights of his distinguished 20 years on the Commercial Court and the Court of Appeal of the UK and Wales from which he recently retired as Lord Justice.

Note the change of venue. The lecture will held in the Lecture Theatre at LIF.



Students are advised to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the lecture.

Alumni students will be at the door with a list of those registered.

About the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS)

The Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) at Queen Mary University of London specialises in the knowledge and skills in commercial law that can be placed at the service of government, public bodies, overseas institutions, the legal profession, industry and commerce.

The Centre for Commercial Law Studies is based in the heart of legal London at the postgraduate law centre in Lincoln's Inn Fields. CCLS and the Department of Law are the two departments within the School of Law at Russell Group Member, Queen Mary University of London.

The Centre was created in 1980 by Sir Roy Goode. Over the last thirty five years, CCLS has developed an in depth expertise in specific areas of commercial law. Having commenced with banking and finance and intellectual property law, CCLS expanded to cover arbitration, information technology, new technologies, media, international economic law, international institutions, tax, development, and corporate governance. The Centre has recently developed insurance, energy and shipping law specialisms. Its international profile has been further enhanced by the establishment, in January 2013, of an LLM programme offered in Paris, and in 2015 with the offering of an LLM in International Shipping Law at the Hellenic Management Centre, Pireaus, Greece.

Through our specialist schools and institutes, we continue to maintain our lead as one of the top commercial postgraduate law schools in the world.
