Sir Simon Jenkins: Writing a Popular Architectural History (In-Person Reg.)

Simon will speak about controversy in British architecture with illustrations, building up to the issue of modernism and its reception.

Simon Jenkins is a journalist, author and broadcaster. He has been political editor of the Economist, literary editor of the Sunday Times, and editor of the Evening Standard and Times. His outside board service included British Rail, London Transport, Faber and Faber and chairman of the Pevsner book trust. He was a deputy chairman of English Heritage, and served on the boards of the Museum of London, Somerset House, The South Bank centre, SAVE, the Thirties Society, the RIBA drawings collection and the Millennium Commission. In 2008 he became Chairman of the National Trust. He has written books on churches, houses, railway stations, London and the buildings of Wales, as well as a short histories of England, Europe and London. He has written a study of the Celts and Celticism as well as a short history of British Architecture.
