About this event

Dumpy level was built in 1941 and is part of a series of tunnels built under Dover Castle in Kent.

It served as a joint service headquarters with plotting room and NATO communications centre functions until the mid 1950s. Laying abandoned until 1962, the Home Office took control, creating RSG 12 - by far the largest of the RSGs. The site was eventually replaced by a new RGHQ at Crowborough.

Dumpy is not usually open to the public and there are three available time slots for our special group tours - 11am, 12:30pm and 2pm.

All visitors must either pay for site admission or be English Heritage members, in addition to the £10 fee for this special tour. Site admission can be paid on the day.

Whilst visiting, be sure to check out the other underground sections on the day. These include an underground hospital, tunnel complex from which Operation Dynamo was controlled and medieval tunnels, as well as being on a larger site with a multitude of things to do.
