Event Details

We have a right to work, to choose what we work at and to make a living from it. We want to work. Most of us are ready and able to work. What’s more, the rest of Scotland needs us in work and contributing to the economy. But, and it’s a big but, we are almost half as likely to be in work as someone who is not a disabled person.

The Scottish Government say they want to cut the employment gap between disabled people and the rest of the working age population by at least half, and that they want to work with us to do so. This year’s Summit is our opportunity to hear about the Government’s plans and to come up with our own practical solutions to cut the gap.

The Summit will look at ‘employer-ability’ – what it is that employers need to do to make them good employers that we’ll want to work for. It’s time to shift the spotlight away from our ‘employability’ and to come up with the solutions that will support employers to change the way they think and act so that they provide inclusive jobs and work places.

We’ll hear from Jamie Hepburn MSP, Minister for Employability and Training, disabled people, employers representatives and those who work with themprivate sector businesses, plus a panel of sector leaders who’ll debate the issues and explore the options.  A full agenda will follow.

This event is for disabled people, their organisations and supporters.
