Event description

Description

Do you do good things in the community? Would you like to be part of a network of people and groups across Birmingham who are all doing something for the places they live and the people they share interests with?

If you're interested, book yourself in for 60 Minutes on the Birmingham Community Network. (If you can't make it on Wednesday 22nd April at 6pm, then leave a message by clicking the link at the bottom of the page)

What's planned?

Introductions - and then 60 minutes worth of ideas, offers, conversation, consideration, challenges and chat. A chance to share information about groups and networks that are already in place. An opportunity to plan future collaboration. A forum for give and take - to get the benefits of others' skills and know-how and to exercise your own. The detail - that's up to you.

Who's welcome?

Anyone who thinks an open and inclusive network designed to enable mutual help between people who do good things in their communities is a good idea and who would like to co-operate with others who think the same. Doesn't matter where you live in the city; who you know or how well off you are; how long you've been here; what you think you can, or cannot, do; what colour skin you have or the colour of your politics - so long as you like the idea of an open and inclusive network that benefits everyone likewise through co-operation. Whether you're into changing the world or just helping folks out, you'll be very welcome.

Why is 60 Minutes at the Council House?

Because that's the right place for something that's about citizens working together for the common good? It's Our Council - and it's our Council House too! Also because the Council is letting us have the use of the room as part of its Standing Up For Birmingham campaign which is all about helping people to work together to do things better. And, finally, because the Council House is in the centre of town and isn't just associated with a single cause. The idea is the network is open to people wherever you live in the city, whatever networks and groups you're already part of and whatever issues you care about.

Who's 'We'?

'We' is whoever comes on Wednesday and whoever else says they're interested. The meeting will start off being facilitated by Paul Slatter of Chamberlain Forum (a non-profit organisation, based in Birmingham, which aims to help communities and public agencies work together to make better places to live). But this isn't a Chamberlain Forum meeting; Paul isn't getting paid to do it; and anyone else can help facilitate as it goes on. You can get in touch with him at paul@chamberlainforum.org or on Twitter @paulgslatter

Anything Else?

We actually have the room booked for 90 minutes. Which means there will be about half an hour at the end for you to do a bit of networking or, if you want, to talk to other people about collaborating in future.
