Looking to develop your skills? Want to become more employable? Want to meet new people? Skill Build is the ideal course for you. This semester, it will include sessions from USE, 301: Student Skills and Development Centre , The University Library, The Careers Service as well as a guest speaker from Sheffield Hallam University. Sessions take place every Thursday evening, 6.15-7.30pm in Lecture theatre 3, The Diamond.

This activity is HEARable and is recognised for the Sheffield Graduate Award. In order to complete Skill Build as a HEARable activity, you need to attend five of the sessions below and complete the assignment.

Welcome to Skill Build – Thursday 19th October

This week, we will introduce you to the Skill Build Course, what is enterprise as well as background information to the assignment

Team Formation – Thursday 26th October

Sometimes, it is impossible to do everything yourself in a project. This session will help you understand what your own strengths and weaknesses are and how having the right team can turn a project from a flop into a success. This is great for anyone who is currently doing a group project as part of their degree or extra-curricular activities.

Events Management – Thursday 2nd November

So you have got an idea of what event you are going to plan for your assignment, but what considerations do you need to think about in order to make it a success? In this session David Strafford, Lecturer in Events Management at Sheffield Hallam University, will discuss the principles of successful event management, and share his experiences from many years spent in industry.

Employers want you to be able to tell them why you are right for the job. Articulating skills and motivations is something many students struggle with. This session will give you the confidence to evidence your employability skills effectively for a specific role and help you secure that much coveted graduate job.
