Skills and Simulation in Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia
Overview
Course Aims:
- To highlight some of the skills required for providing anaesthesia for children with cardiac disease undergoing both cardiac and non-cardiac procedures
- To undertake high-fidelity simulation to model the anaesthetic management of potential complications that might occur when anaesthetising children with cardiac disease
- To understand how human factors may influence effective leadership and team-working during an unexpected emergency situation in theatre
- To learn about other complementary courses such as the ECMO and SPRINT courses, with more immersive in-situ simulation in theatre or cardiac catheter lab environments
Course Structure:
- Four clinical skills stations
- Two critical situation simulations
- Multidisciplinary team learning
- Technical and human factors debriefing
