Are you an experienced Gas Engineer ready to step into the future of green and renewable energy? The City of Liverpool College is here to help you upgrade your skills to meet the latest industry standards in green energy. Our intensive 2-week Green Energy Gas Engineer Upskilling programme will give you the qualifications and expertise needed to work with cutting-edge green heating systems.

You’ll become qualified to install and maintain ground source and air source heat pumps within unvented systems, ensuring you're fully equipped to work in the fast-growing renewable energy sector. Plus, you’ll gain crucial knowledge of Water Regulations, helping you ensure compliance with industry standards while keeping consumers safe.

Who Is This Programme For?

If you’re a qualified plumber or gas technician looking to build essential skills in the booming green energy sector, this programme is designed for you! Whether you’re aiming to expand your career opportunities or meet new regulatory standards, this course will put you at the forefront of the green energy movement.

Run in partnership with Vaillant and the City of Liverpool College, the Skills Bootcamp is open to self-employed and employed individuals residing in residing in the Liverpool City Region who meet eligibility criteria. You must be aged 19 or older on or before 31 August 2024 to take part and have been a UK resident for a minimum of three years. You must also have a level 3 qualification in plumbing and gas. Training is fully funded for self – employed individuals and up to 90% funded for employed individuals with employers required to contribute to learner fees.

Your training takes place in our state-of-the-art Green Technologies School and Testing Centre, where you'll have access to the latest facilities and expert tutors. This programme is broken down into three key modules that will give you hands-on experience and valuable industry insight:

Module 1: Installing & Maintaining Ground & Air Source Heat Pumps

Master the skills to size, select, install, commission, and hand over heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits).

Gain expertise in planning and installing both air source and ground source heat pumps, becoming proficient in commissioning these systems.

Develop a deeper understanding of how to maintain heat pump systems, with hands-on training in fault finding and system diagnostics.

Module 2: Application with Vented & Unvented Systems

Learn the ins and outs of vented and unvented hot water systems, from operation to installation, and understand their advantages and disadvantages.

Get up-to-date on the latest legislative requirements for hot water systems powered by heat pumps.

Module 3: Water Regulations

Dive deep into the byelaws and regulations that govern commercial and domestic water appliances and installations.

Understand the different fluid categories used in heat pump appliances and the safe methods of installation, service, and operation.

Learn how to prevent water contamination in vented and unvented systems that operate with heat pumps.
