Truro and Penwith College’s Skills Bootcamp in Retrofit Readiness has been designed to meet the urgent demand for skilled professionals who can support the UK’s transition to net zero through sustainable building practices, energy efficiency measures, and renewable technologies, and to enable learners to develop the knowledge, expertise and hands-on experience needed to thrive in this fast-growing area of the Construction and Housing sector.
Introductory Session:
- Course starts on 20th January 2026 and runs until 31st March 2026
- An opportunity to meet with the expert Lecturer in Retrofit and Renewables
- Take part in activities to get a better understanding of the content and study requirements of the full taught programme

Course Outline:
The Skills Bootcamp in Retrofit Readiness is a ten-week course that will provide adult learners, aged 19 and over, with a comprehensive introduction to a range of retrofit techniques and technologies and develop the foundational knowledge and skills to enable learners to progress into further training, employment or professional services.
Learners will explore the principles of Domestic Retrofit, Carbon Literacy and the critical role of energy efficiency in tackling climate change, whilst gaining practical experience in areas such as Solar Installation, External Wall Insulation and renewable heating solutions, including Heat Pumps.
By attending the Skills Bootcamp in Retrofit Readiness, learners will:
· Understand the principles of Domestic Retrofit and their importance in reducing carbon emissions.
· Gain practical skills in Solar Panel Installation and integration with existing systems.
· Develop competence in External Wall Insulation techniques to improve energy efficiency.
· Explore the use of renewable heating systems, including air-source and ground-source heat pumps.
· Build awareness of Carbon Literacy, sustainability and the impact of energy use on the environment.
· Learn about Health and Safety, compliance and regulatory requirements within Retrofit.
· Develop knowledge of Renewable and emerging technologies and their role in the UK’s net-zero targets.
· • Learn from industry professionals with experience in Retrofit coordination, Construction management and sustainable energy systems.
• Work towards creating a portfolio of practical skills and knowledge to showcase to employers or support progression onto further training or professional services.
Learners will also benefit from access to guest speakers and industry experts who will share insights into Retrofit career pathways, job opportunities and employment trends within the Construction and Housing sector.

Cost –
Thanks to funding from the Department for Education, there is no charge for individuals looking to re-train or upskill. SME employers will only need to pay 10% of the course fee if they enrol a member of staff (£256), whilst large organisations will be asked to contribute 30% (£767).
