The Skills Bootcamp in Welding and Fabrication, delivered in Truro and Penwith College's specialist Institute of Technology facility on the Truro Campus, is ideal for people looking to upskill to enhance their practical skills or to re-train to access employment opportunities in the Engineering and Manufacturing sector.
Taster Session:
- Taster Session scheduled for 12th December (9:30 – 13:00) in the specialist Valency Building on the Truro Campus.
- Opportunity to meet with the expert Lecturer in Welding and Fabrication.
- Take part in activities to get a better understanding of the content and study requirements of the full taught programme.
- Discover the benefits of becoming an adult learner at Truro and Penwith College
- Meet with trained Guidance Officers to discuss career aspirations and any additional support or accessibility requirements.
- Confirm requirements for Personal Protective Equipment, which will be provided to all learners at no cost as part of the Skills Bootcamp programme.
- The full Skills Bootcamp programme will then run from 9th January 2026 to 20th March 2026.
Course Outline:
The Skills Bootcamp in Welding and Fabrication is a ten-week course delivered within Truro and Penwith College's specialist Institute of Technology facility on the Truro Campus, the Valency Building, and is ideal for adult learners, aged 19 and over, looking to upskill to enhance their practical skills or to re-train to access employment opportunities in the Engineering and Manufacturing sector.
During the Skills Bootcamp, learners will study a range of topics and gain the core skills required to develop careers or business growth, or to prepare for progression onto a Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship or further Engineering studies.
Across the College-based workshop sessions, the specialist Lecturer will cover a comprehensive range of topics including Health and Safety, MIG and TIG welding, Consumables, Components, Gases and Methods for Post-Weld Processes.
Thanks to its accreditation as an approved provider for Coded Welder certification , learners will also be supported to obtain this highly-valued and industry-recognised status at the conclusion of the Skills Bootcamp.
Learners will also benefit from access to industry experts and local employers to assist you with your next steps for employment or professional development.

Thanks to funding from the Department for Education, there is no charge for individuals looking to re-train or upskill. SME employers will only need to pay 10% of the course fee if they enrol a member of staff (£312), whilst large organisations will be asked to contribute 30% (£936).
