Event description
Through a range of techniques, this course will provide a fascinating overview of the identification of bones and skulls of British mammals.

About this Event

During this unique two-day course, Ric Morris will explain bone identification techniques especially suited to mammal recording, enabling delegates to confidently identify the majority of their bone finds.

Classroom sessions will cover topics such as; the structure and naming of the parts of the skeleton; how to differentiate mammal bones from bird, amphibian, reptile and fish bones; how to distinguish insectivores, herbivores, carnivores and omnivores; ageing mammals from their bones; identifying bone fragments; bone pathology, including abnormalities, deformities and healed fractures; and an introduction to owl pellet analysis.

There will also be an opportunity to examine, handle, draw or photograph specimens from a very extensive collection.

The trainer for this course is Ric Morris.
