About this Event

About this Event.

Longtime Slapstick patron, supporter and board member, Graeme Garden will be chatting to Matthew Sweet about radio comedy, including his seminal works I’M SORRY I’LL READ THAT AGAIN, I’M SORRY I HAVEN’T A CLUE and, more recently THE UNBELIEVABLE TRUTH.

Broadcaster, author and host of Radio 3's Free Thinking, Matthew Sweet will be in the chair for this live-streamed event, connecting Slapstick Festival fans and supporters during this period when live 'in-person' shows seem impossible.

How does it work?

Tickets to the event can be secured by donating to the festival via this page. We suggest a donation of £10 but will accept donations of any size from £1.

Why do we need your help?

Slapstick Festival is a cultural, not-for-profit limited company whose aim is to grow and develop new and diverse audiences and to raise awareness of and increase appreciation for onscreen silent, visual and classic comedy. We do this by showcasing and celebrating archive film predominately from the silent era (1895-1930), accompanied by world-class live music. As well as this we also programme contemporary visual and classic comedy introduced by celebrities who encourage new audiences.

The current COVID-19 crisis means that, sadly, after 15 editions, we can’t run the planned events we had scheduled for spring and summer this year so we won't be able to host the festival in the way we had planned in January 2021 as things stand.

The impact of reduced ticket sales means that we desperately need your help to ensure that Slapstick is here to carry on celebrating silent, visual and classic comedy in 2021 and beyond. Whatever you can spare will make a big difference.
