About this event

Are you ready for a Peak Adventure ?

Slieve Donard 'Donairts Mountain' (850m) & Slieve Commedagh 'Moutain of watching' (767m) both of these peaks boast the highest peaks in Northern Ireland.

Starting in Donard Car Park we will follow the Glen River through Donard forest, past the Ice House and the up towards the saddle between the mountains. From here we will meet the majestic Mourne Wall and follow it to the summit and water tower on the top of Slieve Donard.

Slieve Donard has 3 subsidiary peaks in the seaward direction , those being: Thomas's mountain, Millstone mountain & Crossone.

Slieve Commedagh lies on the North-western side of Donard. It also has a tower that is part of the Mourne wall this tower was built to provide shelter for the workers who were building the Mourne wall.

Adventure with us up the 2 highest peaks in Northern Ireland & enjoy the views from these 2 giants.


START & END POINT: Donard Car Park, 5 Donard Park, Newcastle, BT33 0HL

TIME: 09.00 am

DISTANCE: 10 - 12 km

DURATION: approx. 5 - 6 hours

TERRAIN: Uneven ground, open mountainside, single track paths.

HIKE GRADING: Moderately Strenuous

COST: £30 + Eventbrite booking fee

Hike Grading Explained:

EASY - Suitable for every member of the family.

MODERATE- Suitable for all people with a reasonable level of fitness.

MODERATLEY STRENUOUS - Long duration or substantial elevation gain with challenging terrain.

STRENUOUS - Full days hike over challenging terrain & often difficult route.

When you arrive:

Catherine & I want to provide you with a 5 star hiking experience. Our years of experience guiding groups through the hills is the foundation of our service.

When you arrive in the morning for registration you will receive a complimentary tea / coffee & breakfast bar. This gives you the opportunity to kit up & chat with your fellow hikers before we set off for the day.

Can I go on my own?

Of course, all our hikes are welcoming & friendly. From solo hikers and walking buddies, it won’t be long before you are making new friends in the mountains.

This guided hike is suitable to people with a good level of fitness and some experience of wild mountain walking.

What should I wear ?

Suitable footwear for mountain trails – hiking boots / trail shoes.

Waterproof jacket & trousers / leggings are a must – even in summer. Comfortable clothing & extra warm layers - weather can change dramatically in the mountains. Additional layers & fleece advisable. Hat & gloves recommended.

What do I bring ?

Rucksack, water, snacks and substantial lunch to fuel the duration of the hike.

There will be regular stops planned to eat, rest, and enjoy the beautiful surrounding views.

Please ensure you bring sufficient water with you. Hiking during the summer you need to bring 3-4L of water with you as well as sunscreen & insect repellent.

When you book with Peak Adventure’s you will get a guided hike, by not 1 but 2 experienced & qualified mountain leaders.

We are first aid trained and carry first aid & emergency equipment for your safety. If you need any personal medication, please ensure you carry this with you on the day.

If we need to postpone or cancel an event due to weather (your safety always comes first), you can transfer your ticket to a future hike (of the same value) or you can receive a full refund.

All booking fees through Eventbrite are paid by the participant, and therefore non-refundable.


If you need to cancel a booking a minimum 14 day’s notice must be given to the organiser.

You will receive credit which can then be used towards any future event within 3 months of the original purchase. No refunds can be given.

If you cancel within the 14 days, we are unable offer credit or transfer to another hike.

No credit or transfer for no shows on a hike day.
