How to share or divide pension entitlement on divorce can be a complicated process for family lawyers. Different considerations apply depending on the parties’ personal circumstances as much as the type of pension under scrutiny, and each case brings its own complications.
As well as a case law update, this course will cover the problem areas of most concern to practitioners, specific types of pension, the process of evaluating a pension and provide a comprehensive analysis of the impact of recent decisions.

- Pension liberation
- Private Sector and the External Option
- Public Sector Scheme changes
- State Pensions
- Equal Values or Incomes and do you still need an actuary
- Use of Liberalisation in reaching solutions
- Uniformed Services and the traps
- Common problem areas and how to resolve them (this might for example be valuation/or “how to split” type issues).
David Lockett is a specialist with over 24 years’ pensions experience. David is a recognised expert in the field of the valuation and division of pension rights in divorce settlements. David has spoken throughout the UK on this subject at conferences attended by solicitors, barristers, IFAs and district judges; both organized by Actuaries for Lawyers, and by external providers such as Jordans and by leading chambers. David additionally has experience of appearing in Court as an Expert Witness.
David has further expertise in the determination of the loss of pension rights and loss of earnings in Personal Injury, Unfair Dismissal and other litigation cases and in valuations of Life and Reversionary Interests.
