Event Details

small park, BIG RUN is your chance to enter a 24 hour group challenge to run to raise funds and awareness for Palestine.

It is taking place in Meersbrook Park, Sheffield on 16-17 June 2018

Unlike us, Palestinians do not enjoy freedom of movement. The daily challenges they face are a test of endurance. Journeys we take for granted, like going to school or work, visiting friends or family or trips to hospital can be much more demanding or even impossible for Palestinians faced with the ever-changing restrictions on movement imposed by the Israeli security forces.

small park BIG RUN run will draw attention to the situation and raise funds for two Palestinian projects: 1. Khuza'a Children's Healing project and 2. University education for Palestinian women.

Details of how to fundraise for these projects - a Sponsorship Form to download and print for the Khuza'a Children's Healing project and a link to a VirginMoneyGiving page for the University education for Palestinian women - can be found here

We will run continuous circuits of Meersbrook park over 24 hours, as one team, with at least two people on the course at all times. No-one has to run for 24 hours... unless they want to! People can run for as little as 30 minutes. Meersbrook Park is a well contained, hilly course. One circuit is roughly one kilometre.

What if I cannot afford the entry fee?

We are committed to being as inclusive as we can be. There are a few tickets for runners that are free. These are aimed at those without funds particularly destitute asylum seekers, refugees and unwaged.

We are also really keen to ensure families can take part together and there are two options to help.

  • We have a new family ticket available in 2018: this is for two adults and up to three under-18s. Please choose to "Participate as an Individual" and then select the "Family: up to 2 adults, 3 under 18" option

  • You can also register for the fun run which will take place at 12.15 pm on Sunday 17th June. Entry for that half an hour is free. Details will be published on our website.

small park BIG RUN

small park BIG RUN is organised by individuals from Sheffield Palestine Cultural Exchange (SPaCE), Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), Sheffield Palestine Women's Scholarship Fund and the local Meersbrook and Heeley community. Local groups participating in the organisation include Meersbrook Park Users Trust and Heeley Development Trust.

SPaCE is committed to promoting Palestinian culture in Sheffield by holding cultural events and, where possible, making live links with Palestinians. In ttandem with the small park BIG RUN we plan to organise a tandem run in Palestine.

The Sheffield Palestine Women's Scholarship Fund is a UK based charity set up in 2007 following a 2006 International Women’s Day Conference where a call was made to support women into education in Gaza. The Fund raises money for scholarships to pay the university fees of poor often refugee Palestinian women into higher education in the Gaza Strip. In 2017 41 women are being supported.

Sheffield PSC has been active in Sheffield since 1990s. It is a group committed to highlighting injustices suffered by Palestinian people. SPSC supports children's' projects in Gaza and funds play and educational facilties and, amongst other intiatives, a mobile library. More recently we have funded a trauma centre to help recovery from the psychological impact of war.
