Small Trans Dinner & A Movie

This Wednesday Movie night we have something special! We’re excited to invite you to the Glasgow iteration of ‘Trans-forming Trans-missions 跨镜’, a programme of short films by trans and non-binary filmmakers based in the UK and from Mainland China, programmed and produced by April Lin 林森 and Mathis Zhang 张杭, with assistant programmer Jialin Hong 洪佳琳.

Curated by the pair of trans and non-binary filmmakers across both countries, with works selected from an Open Call process, the programme is structured as a series of duets between two films, one from each country. These films ask: How does being trans feel like today? What is the relationship between the Internet and trans embodiment? How can we build worlds from a trans perspective?

The short films that will be screened are listed below.

Content warnings for these are: mentions of transmisogyny, gender dysphoria, bullying, domestic violence, arrest, and in-depth discussion of depression and plans to attempt suicide (the latter is in one particular film and we will give a heads up for this – a break out space will be available as always to use for the duration of that film or at any other point!).

As always, we’ll be having a vegan meal before the screening, and everyone is welcome to bring snacks.

As we're opening up the invite to trans folks beyond our usual mailing list, we ask that you please register if you’re planning to come along so we can keep an eye out on the numbers!

A taxi fund is available if you need it to get home after the film, please just approach any STL member on the night or get in touch beforehand to get that organised. If you wish to be met from somewhere close and guided to Bonjour please also get in touch! Feel free to contact us via DM or glasgow@smalltranslibrary.org if you any questions.

There will also be a clothes bank/community wardrobe and a food/essential items bank so if you have anything you wish to donate please bring it along!

The event is completely free but there are running costs, so if you can make any donations they are extremely welcome!

This is an event for trans people. If you’re just questioning your gender that’s ok, please come! We are friendly and won’t bite! If you are shy and want to bring a cis friend for support that's grand too( as long as they’re sound)

Food will be served at 8pm and the movie will start around 8:30.

The food provided will be vegan, if have any allergies please just let us know beforehand and we'll do our best for you!! There's sometimes leftovers so bring some containers if you'd like to take some home.
