Glasgow City Region 5GIR: Glasgow City Region announced a 5G Innovation Region in November 2023, winning £3.2M funding for four ground-breaking 5G and advanced technologies projects. The projects showcase the demand and benefits of advanced wireless connectivity and digital technologies; from monitoring real-time residential environmental conditions for early detection of mould and optimising energy use to reduce carbon footprint and lower bills, to remotely tracking the health and well-being of patients.

Innovation Districts: Glasgow’s Innovation Districts are anchored by the international and industry research strengths of the city’s two principal research-intensive universities – the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow - internationally recognised for their strengths in science, technology, engineering, medicine, business and other fields

Digital Glasgow Strategy 2024-2030 - The new Digital Strategy updates considers the impact of digitisation on Glasgow's economic and social life, and how it effects the delivery of council services.

Ayrshire 5GIR – A £3.7M DSIT funded project establishing 'Regional Strategic Wireless Innovation Hubs', anchored to key Ayrshire Growth Deal sites, the region is creating a dynamic ecosystem that integrates 5G, Industrial Internet of Things (IoT), and edge computing into advanced manufacturing and critical sectors. These hubs are central to accelerating the adoption of digital and wireless technologies, transforming traditional production facilities into state-of-the-art Digital Wireless Factories. .

Borderlands 5GIR - A £3.8M DIST funded Project utilising 5G and advanced wireless tech at key sites across the Region to demonstrate how it can help build the tourist economy, protect the environment and local businesses.

SCONDA - The SCONDA (Small Cells ORAN in Dense Areas) Project seeks to address the unique technical and commercial challenges of High-Density Demand areas and will be the first in the world to integrate Open RAN and Traditional RAN in a high density, high demand environment handling live traffic. The project will build, integrate, optimise and deliver an Open RAN network in Glasgow City Centre, integrated to the existing Three UK Core Network, operating alongside their traditional RAN. The £9M project based in Glasgow, London, Reading and Surrey will improve wireless (4G and 5G) connectivity in the cities. The project seeks to address the unique technical and commercial challenges of High-Density mobile network demand. It will be the first in the world to integrate Open RAN and Traditional RAN technologies in a high density, high demand environment handling live traffic.

The event will provide an opportunity to present Glasgow City Region as an attractive location for business and investment.
