Event description

Description

Can you answer 'Yes' to the questions in the picture above? If so, this study could be for you.

Who is conducting this research study?

Researchers from the University of Leicester are leading this study and are working with researchers at the University of Salford, Loughborough University, University of York and researchers in Australia.

Why are we doing this research study?

High amounts of time spent sitting is bad for our health. We want to help people do something about this!

We have designed a programme called SMART Work & Life which aims to reduce the amount of sitting workers do inside and outside of work. We have tried out this programme on a small scale in NHS office workers and it was successful in reducing sitting and improving health. The next step is to test this programme in a different workplace and with hundreds of staff.

What is SMART Work and Life?

Upon agreeing to take part your office will be randomly assigned (like tossing a coin) to one of 3 groups: 1 group will carry on as usual, and the other 2 groups will receive a lifestyle programme (Intervention group 1 will receive a sit-stand desk and a lifestyle programme, Intervention group 2 will receive the lifestyle programme only).

All participants will receive regular health monitoring and feedback on health results at four time points over a 24 month period. You will be asked to wear an activity tracker.

You will receive a £10 voucher for providing complete data at each time point (£40 in total).

All study activities will happen at Bolton Council during work hours.

What is the purpose of the study information session?

This 40-45 minute session will give you some background to the study, why it's important and what it will involve and when. It's also an opportunity to ask any questions to the research team. At the end of the session, if you are eligible (i.e., answered 'Yes' to questions above) and want to take part you will be given an information sheet and instructions on how to sign up.

Please also encourage your colleagues to sign up to this session and come along.
