Description

How can digital technologies help the arts and culture sectors to increase engagement and advocacy?

Smarter Cultural Journeys is an intensive research project which aims to answer this question.

Undertaken by leading digital agency Deeson with the support of an Innovate UK grant, we spent 4 months surveying and interviewing hundreds of people – from school children, to digital and engagement leaders in museums, galleries, the theatre, and the opera.

Our discussions with the sector and its audiences were refreshingly open and candid. At this invite-only event we'll present a summary of all the things you told us, and you'll hear the experiences of your peers in the industry, including Tate digital director Ros Lawler, and Chief Commercial Officer at Birmingham Royal Ballet, Paul James.

Why attend?

We've spoken to your audiences. We've spoken to educators and community activists. We've visited you, we've visited the competition, and we've tried out the latest methods of engagement from the entertainment and gaming industries. During the course of an evening, we'll present the key findings from this wide-ranging study and you'll learn how they impact your institution.

We've also tried out the most promising technologies by creating and testing prototypes using 360 video and augmented and virtual reality, to see how they can be used to engage with a wider set of audiences and, more importantly, discover the hidden challenges and benefits they offer. We are now ready to reveal the exciting results of this work.

Some of the key findings of this study may surprise you or challenge your current understanding. They may confirm your long-standing suspicions. We look forward to sharing what we've heard, hearing your thoughts, and driving digital forward together.
