SMARTer Safeguarding : SMART safeguarding plans.
Event Information
About this event
Part of Festival of Learning.
Please remember the delegates are expected to have had safeguarding training and to be aware of local safeguarding procedures.
Aims
SMART planning does not replace any current policies or procedures – most of the work we already do should be SMART, so why do safeguarding practice reviews regularly raise concerns about the lack of clear and timely outcomes, lack of focus and over optimism? Perhaps staff have never had the chance to really focus on what planning SMART means and how to apply this to practice. This session will give you the opportunity to do this, so that you can easily review existing Child Protection or Team Around the Family Plans. It will also give you the tools to apply SMART principles to all future plans in a way that is clear and simple to understand for all involved.
Objectives
To examine the current statutory safeguarding guidance on planning and what issues SCR highlight.
To explore SMART planning – what does it stand for? How can it help?
To recognise the difference between a goal and an objective and be able to scrutinise an objective to see if it is SMART.
To practice applying SMART objectives to improve multi-agency plans.
To consider potential pitfalls in planning and how to avoid them.
To identify how to put the learning from the session into practice.
At the end of the course participants will have gained
Increased knowledge of SMART planning.
Confidence to review existing plans using SMART and to ensure any new multi-agency plans are SMART.
Opportunity to meet and learn with staff from different agencies to support understanding of each other’s roles and responsibilities.
This course will support staff with competencies that relate to multi-agency working and contributing and/or leading assessments, plans and reviews, i.e. no’s 6, 12, 15, 18, 24, 26 and 27.
Certificates provided in the following month.
