Smartphone Filmmaking Course for Charities
Event Information
About this Event
This course runs in two sessions. The filming skills will take place on the Tuesday morning, 10.30 - 12.30. Trainees will then need to film their own footage in time for the editing session on the Thursday morning, 10.30 - 12.30. The only kit you need for the training is your smartphone and the KineMaster App.
The Tuesday session will help you develop your practical smartphone filmmaking skills. It will teach essential skills around framing, lighting and sound, with a particular focus on techniques for capturing good quality pieces to camera. There will also be advice on capturing B Roll and recommendations on additional kit to buy if you want to.
The Thursday session will introduce you to the basics of editing footage. We will cover how to make selects, trim footage, create a timeline and use B Roll to create your film, we will also cover music, subtitling and captions. This is a practical session where you will be editing footage so, if you haven’t completed part one of the course you will need to shoot some footage on your phone before this session.
We train on the KineMaster App because it is available on both iPhone and Android smartphones but the principles are transferable to other Apps.
Participants will receive our smartphone filmmaking handbook.
“I thought the Mile 91 Smartphone Filmmaking Course was fantastic. It was really practical, giving simple yet expert pieces of advice and instruction for us to take back and put into practice. What could have been quite a complicated session and subject matter, was delivered in a way that was easy to follow and learn from.”
Ella Stanbrook, PR Manager, Cruse Bereavement Care.
This course is also available for in house group bookings. Please contact catherine@mile91.co.uk to discuss.
The following films were shot and edited by people who attended our smartphone filmmaking course. The British Red Cross film was shot prior to social distancing rules. The Dogs for Good film was made by a dog trainer at home during lockdown.
