Event description

Description

Join us from 6pm on 19th September for an evening of Ruby and pizza for our first coding event for National Coding Week.

What will I learn?

In this three hour session, you'll understand some Ruby fundamentals and manage to build a workable version of the retro phone favourite snake with a few customisations. Leaving the session, we'll also send you follow up content to help you continue your learning.

What experience do I need?

None! We teach in a way that anyone with an inquisitive nature can learn and have fun. This session may not be incredibly useful if you have a lot of software development experience.

The session will be led by 2 Makers Academy alumni. You'll have opportunity to ask questions throughout the session, though our sessions focus around self-learning and a growth mindset.

What do I need to bring?

You + a laptop. We can provide a limited amount of laptops, but please let us know by emailing adam@makersacademy.com in advance so we can try to secure a device for you.

Please make sure you RSVP and include a full name with your ticket reservation to ensure you're able to gain access to the building.

A little about our Alumni coaches

Paula Muldoon retrained at Makers Academy after an international career as a violinist and is now a PHP developer at Kurt Geiger. She has performed in over 20 countries, including recording at Abbey Road, and also blogs as The Mindful Violinist and Fiddlers Code. Originally from the USA, she holds degrees from the University of Michigan and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She loves software development because you never stop learning! Follow her on themindfulviolinist and fiddlerscode.

In a previous life, Naz Malik was an investigative journalist and travelling freelance writer. Now a developer, he loves getting excited about eccentric projects, surrealist art, writing a blog, and catching up with the pack of wolves he grew up with, over a coffee and a slice of carrot cake.
