Event description

Description

A one-day workshop, exploring the hidden visual language of sacred geometry that govern proportion, symmetry and harmony seen in nature from beautiful snowflakes, ubiquitous floral shapes and stars.

Participants will learn a step-by-step construction of a traditional geometric pattern, inspired by Islamic architectural design, using traditional Euclidean tool of a drawing compass and ruler. There will be particular focus on 4,6 and 8-fold patterns, designs and motifs including radial symmetry.

We will explore contemporary interpretation of patterns, and learn about the significance of colour and harmony to creatively decorate and illuminate individual patterns and designs composed.

We will also colour, cut-out and assemble 3D decorated polyhedron shapes taken from 'Geometric Skies' Islamic Pattern-inspired Colouring Activity Book by Visual Artist Saba Rifat.

The workshop is suitable for adults and children 12 years + with little or no art experience.

Limited spaces. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Materials will be provided. You are also welcome to bring your own compasses.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided.
