Team Snowdon – The Southey Way
Snowdon Trek Challenge

The Challenge – Climb Snowdon
Dates: 14th -16th July 2019

THIS TRIP IS NOW FULL! However you can still register to go on the waiting list for if a space becomes available or for a future trip

Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales and 2nd highest in the UK is a beautiful mountain and the views from the top (if the weather permits!) are stunning. Yes, you can catch a train up but likely your only personal growth will be your waist line from the cream tea at the top!

The challenge is to get yourself up there and back down under your own steam not the train’s!

Walking with a likeminded small group of 10 and a support team from The Southey Way we will climb Snowdon and return safely back to share our tales together.

• When was the last time you did something new just for you?
• When did you last say yes to something that made you feel nervous or even scared?
• Have you got stuck in a rut of your own making?
• Do you want to get fitter with purpose?

Is it time to do something different?

This challenge is for you if:
• You’ve never climbed a big mountain
• You want a challenge but are nervous about going it alone
• You’ve not experienced the growth that personal challenges give you
• You want to do different in your live but are not sure where to start
• You want to build confidence in yourself and your abilities

The journey up a mountain (as with life) is different for everyone even though it may seem we follow the same path. Only you will know your personal challenges and learning gained.

The Southey Way is there to help you achieve your personal challenge on this adventure, one step at a time.

The walk is not a hugely technical one though challenging in places. It is a beautiful walk on a sunny day, but a little more mentally challenging when it’s not!

3 ¼ miles of mainly up and 3 1/4miles of mainly down, with a good level of fitness and determination (and a few breaks to catch your breath and hopefully enjoy the views) you will complete the trek and achieve a great feeling of self satisfaction about your achievement.

Arrive at the hotel on Sunday evening (July 14th) to meet your fellow walkers with a team gathering and briefing as well as some fun bonding!

An early breakfast and start to the car park, we will have the whole of Monday 15th to trek up and down Snowdon at your own pace. There will be a support team of 3 so whether you are at the front, middle or rear of the group, you will always have someone at hand to help you.

On our return to the hotel, there is a team meal and possibly a few drinks so we can share our experience of the day, before you travel back to your home on Tuesday 16th

You will have support from your Southey Way team from the minute you arrive at your hotel to the minute you leave not just on the trek up and down Snowdon. Often the journey starts way before the walk and continues way after it is all over. We walk as a group but each person’s experience is different!

All members of the challenge will be able to join our private Facebook group where we will share all the preparation, training recommendations & kit requirements as well as pre trek challenges and Q&A’s for you to get your questions answered. It will also be a space for us all to get to know one another before the day. An opportunity to share our reasons for doing this challenge, our progress and learning.

This is your opportunity to get out of your comfort zone, challenge yourself mentally, physically and emotionally and grow from the experience. It’s also an opportunity to raise money for an awesome cause.

What’s not to like?

Are you ready to challenge and discover something new about Yourself?

For clarity and transparency.

About Claire Snowdon :
Climbing Snowdon has been on my to do list for decades and on my vision board since 2013.....

So finally I will be taking up the challenge on the 15th July 2019, better late than never!

Having never been a walker or into fitness it is a super challenge for me and I knew that I would need some support to prepare, hence working with the motivational Sara at the Southey Way.

Sara is helping me to get in shape ‘Body and Mind’ for the big day and supporting me to enhance my ‘fit’ lifestyle - walk more and learn to love drinking water!

As a lone entrepreneur I have learned over the years that sharing a challenge always makes for a better experience and so I was keen to bring together a team to share, support and achieve this challenge - Team Snowdon

I have always been proud of the Snowdon name and to celebrate 10 years In Business with Expat Know How I will be rebranding as Snowdon Consulting Ltd, so it’s Snowdon all the way, onwards and upwards for hopefully me and the business!

To keep focused on achieving the end goal I will be walking to raise funds for Maggie’s Charity in the name of Gail Grero a friend that touched my life when I lived and worked in Sri Lanka and who is sadly no longer with us on this earth having been taken by Cancer too soon.

About Sara Southey:
After spending many years looking after everyone else and not placing any value on myself, I didn’t recognise myself any more and knew something must change. I realised quickly I had to do it my way and looked for someone to help me. But there was nobody out there that I could find that would support, guide and help me do it my way. Fast forward through 8 years of self guided health, fitness and personal development, I found myself in the position to actually be the person I had been searching for and The Southey Way was born!

Now, through my great friend Claire, I am in the awesome position to give something back. To help others complete a personal challenge and help them make a difference in their own lives their way.

Having done various walks for charity over the last few years, including the UK highest 4 peaks, Yorkshire 3 peaks, 100km from London to Henley and Toubkal (the highest mountain in North Africa), I know the power of challenging yourself as well as helping raise money for good causes.

A personal challenge can help shift your mental and emotional perceptions as well as giving your health & fitness journey a purpose and focus.

I am here to help you achieve exactly this! This will be my 5th time walking up Snowdon. And I would love for you to take part in this Challenge with us!

About The Southey Way
The Southey Way is not just a fitness programme and I am not just a personal trainer. I believe our lives should be the best they can possibly be and I set up The Southey Way to help others see their potential and realise, when they look after themselves, they can do anything they put their mind to.

Working with not just our bodies but our minds and souls, we can achieve so much, help so many more people, thrive in our lives rather than just surviving each day.

Most of my clients don’t come from a sporty background and don’t know the power they hold inside to thrive. I help them discover and learn about themselves body, mind and soul so they can create and sustain healthy habits that work for them as individuals.

Helping people live healthier, happier and more successful lives is my purpose!

I work with my clients within small groups or 1:1 and together we explore together all aspects of life to ensure any changes made absolutely work for the live you want to lead.

This challenge is a perfect representation of this purpose!

About Maggie’s:
Info about Maggie’s Oxford
Maggie Keswick Jencks lived with advanced cancer for two years. During that time she used her knowledge and experience to create a blueprint for a new type of care. Maggie’s Centres are built around her belief that people should not “lose the joy of living in the fear of dying”.

Maggie's offers free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their families and friends. The first Maggie’s Centre opened in Edinburgh in 1996 and since then Maggie’s has continued to grow, with over 22 centres at major NHS cancer hospitals in the UK and abroad.

Maggie's Oxford is in the grounds of the Churchill Hospital and is open Monday to Friday, offering professional support to people with cancer and their loved ones.

Maggie’s Oxford opened in October 2014 and it is a warm and welcoming place where anyone affected by cancer can access friendly and professional support on a drop-in basis, completely free of charge. Maggie’s tree-house like building is specially designed to feel more like a home than a hospital, with no reception desk, no signs on the wall, no name badges and a big kitchen table at the heart. Set in the trees the centre changes with the seasons and provides a sense of calm. Evidence shows that the uplifting environment reduces stress and anxiety, and fully enhances Maggie’s programme of support.
